T. O. Y. S. stands for Training our Youth to Succeed. The program is comprised of children, ages five to 11, who are referred to the CDC by the Division of Youth and Family Services. The children meet each Wednesday evening.

The “T” in the TOYS acronym best explains the focus of this phase of our mentoring program. Training becomes the foundation on which the youth will build their lives. Among other things, they will learn…..

… to respect themselves and each other, and to take pride in who they are and where they are from.

…that in classrooms in the other 49 states, children their age are learning about state capitals. When the students are asked to name the capital of New Jersey, Trenton, their city, is the only correct answer.

…the most important words in the English language are PLEASE, THANK YOU, and YOU”RE WELCOME.
